It’s strange how so many people use Pinterest and yet it is one of the least talked about social platforms. Built around photos, Pinterest helps you discover creative ideas. Whether you are looking for a recipe, a DIY gift, quotes, accessories, or clothes, Pinterest has it all.

Pinterest is one of the most addictive platforms. Once you start using it, you never want to leave it (I say it from experience). If you discover something interesting, you can bookmark it or save it in one of your Boards. Boards are the visual bookmark tools. You can create multiple Boards on Pinterest. These Boards can be public or private and can be shared with others.

However, these Boards are available only inside the Pinterest website or app (understandably) and that doesn't work offline. There might be times when you're craving to see that collection you had saved in one of the boards but can't because internet's not working.

So how do you avoid being in such a situation?

Luckily, Pinterest provides a built-in way to save images and in this post, we will tell you how to save Pinterest images to your gallery, both on desktop and mobile.

Download Pinterest Images to Gallery on Android

Step 1: Launch the Pinterest app on your Android device. Open the picture that you want to download on your phone.

Step 2: Then tap the three-dot icon in the top-left corner. Select Download image from the pop-up menu.

If it’s your first download from Pinterest, it will ask for permission to access media on your device. Tap Allow to grant permission. Once the image is downloaded, you will receive a small popup at the bottom saying Image saved.

Then, open the Gallery app on your phone and look for the Pins folder. The Pinterest image that you just saved will be available here. Also, all your future Pinterest images will be saved in this folder.

Download Pinterest Images on iPhone

Step 1: Open the Pinterest app on your iOS device and navigate to the image that you want to download.

Step 2: Tap the three-dot icon present in the top bar. From the pop-up menu, select Download image.

In case you get a permission error, open phone Settings on your iOS device and tap Privacy. Under Privacy, tap Photos.

Then look for Pinterest and tap on it. On the next screen where it says Allow Photos Access, tap Read and Write. Go back to the Pinterest app and follow the second step to download images.

Download Pinterest Images on Desktop

Unfortunately, Pinterest doesn’t give an option to download images on a desktop. You will have to use the native download feature of your browser.

Here are the steps.

Step 1: Open the Pinterest website on your PC. Then click the photo that you want to download.

Step 2: On the next screen, hover your mouse over the image and right click on it. Click Save image as. You will be asked to choose the name and location for downloading the image. Finally, click Save.

Note: Make sure to right click on the image itself and not somewhere else.

How to Download All the Images from a Pinterest Board

In case you want to download multiple images from a Pinterest Board on your PC, we have a solution for that as well. You will need to use a Chrome extension that goes by the name Image Downloader. The extension isn’t limited to Pinterest only. You can use it to download multiple images from any website.

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open Chrome on PC. Then click here to add Image Downloader Chrome extension. When the extension loads, click the Add to Chrome button.

Step 2: Once installed, you will see the Image Downloader icon in the top bar of Chrome. Now open Pinterest and navigate to the Board from where you want to download images.

Step 3: Then click on the Image Downloader icon. From the pop-up, check the Select All option. If you don’t want to download an image, click it once in the pop-up window. It will be removed from the selection.

Step 4: Finally, hit the Download button. You will get a warning notification saying that if your Chrome setting is set to Always ask the location before downloading, multiple download windows will open. If you are okay with that, click yes. Otherwise click No.

To avoid multiple save windows, we need to check the download settings first. For that, click the three-dot icon at the top-right corner of Chrome and select Settings from the menu.

Under Settings, click Advanced. Then, uncheck the option that says ‘Ask where to save each file before downloading’ under Downloads. After disabling it, repeat step 3 and 4. Now when the extension asks you to continue the download, click on Yes. Chrome will download all the images on that page.

How to use Pinterest boards

First things first: set up your Pinterest account. Simply go to Pinterest.com and select ‘sign up’ in the top right hand corner. From there, enter an email and password, or use your Facebook or Google account to sign in.

Creating a new board is pretty simple. Simply click on your profile pic or icon in the top right of the screen. Then select the ‘plus’ icon, where you’ll see an option to create a Pinterest board.

Now, you just have to name your new board, and decide if you want to keep the board private. Keep in mind if you don’t choose “keep this board secret,” your Pinterest board will be viewable by anyone, and could come up in Google if someone were to search for your name.

You can even select an end date for your board, which is great if you’re pinning to an events board.

Keep in mind boards should be unique to your interests. If you want to create a board for your home, it should probably be different from your Pinterest board dedicated to running. Conceptually, Pinterest boards are meant to keep all your interest in containers, not lumped together, which makes it difficult to navigate. All of your Pinterest board ideas should be unique.

Create a perfect mood board

You can also use Pinterest to create mood boards without ever leaving the app.

When you first sign up for Pinterest, it will ask you to provide some interests. These are topics, not unique websites or sources. This is essentially Pinterest’s way of trying to curate content for you so you can create mood boards. It’s pulling images and links from the internet, just as you might.

If you like, scroll through your Pinterest home page for inspiration. When you find something you like, simply hover over an image for options. You should see a red button named ‘save’ in the top right of the image. Select it, and you’ll see a screen pop up.

This screen asks which of your boards you want to save the image to. Once you choose, the image is viewable on your board, and has a link to the corresponding website where Pinterest found it when you hover over it. It’s a really nice feature, especially when you’re just pinning a bunch of things to a mood board for ‘garden vegetables’ or something similar. You might think ‘wow, that looks delicious,’ and pin it. Because Pinterest has done the hard work of finding out the site an image is linked to, you can just click the link and discover things like what the vegetable is, and where to buy it.

You can also use the search bar on the top of your Pinterest home page to find ideas to pin to a board. Here, you can enter something simple like ‘garden vegetables’ and quickly see an endless list of vegetables that are popular to grow in a garden.

Towards the top of the screen, you’ll see a row of buttons with helpful words and phrases. For garden vegetables, we see ‘backyard,’ ‘small,’ ‘layout,’ and the like. Selecting one or more of these words will distill your search further. As an example, I selected ‘backyard,’ then ‘small,’ and my search changed to ‘small backyard garden vegetables.’

There is a branded Pinterest app – for mobile. There is no actual Pinterest desktop app; instead, the company relies on the web, and avoids the desktop app experience. It’s really frustrating.

But there is an alternative. Inboard takes everything you might like about Pinterest and takes it offline. The app is also native for Mac.

Like Pinterest, Inboard makes it really easy to save items. Inboard makes saving and categorizing things a lot simpler by using tags. Instead of boards, you just tag your images.

INBOARD

One powerful reason to use tags on Inboard rather than boards on Pinterest is that you can use multiple tags for an image. This allows you to do things like use tags as a rating system. You could have a massive collection of images for something like ‘patio furniture,’ all tagged with a ‘patio furniture’ tag, and correspond to another tag – like ‘5 star’ – for ones you really like.

Inboard is also different in that you have to download pics, and copy-paste URLs when adding an image. The workflow looks like this:

  1. Download an image from the web.

  2. Copy the URL of the webpage you found it on.

  3. Open Inboard.

  4. On the menu bar, select ‘File,’ then ‘Import to Library.’

  5. Choose the image you’d like to upload to Inboard.

  6. Add tags, and paste the URL.

You can also create ‘Folders’ within Inboard, which act just like Pinterest’s boards feature. To create a folder, simply select the ‘plus’ icon on the bottom left of the Inboard screen, or navigate to File > New Folder from the menu bar.

How to pin, like and comment on Pinterest

Commenting on a pin is pretty simple. Here’s how you do it.

  1. Click on a pin you like.

  2. When the pin opens up, you’ll see comments on the pin. Select ‘add comment.’

  3. Enter your comment, then select ‘done.’

If you don’t see a space to add your comment, click the toggle arrow to the right of ‘comments.’

When you find a pin you like on Pinterest, selecting the aforementioned ‘save’ feature on that pin will pin it to your board. Liking a pin comes in several forms; really, you don’t like a pin the same way you ‘like’ a social media post. Like Facebook, Pinterest allows you to react.

You can use one of five reactions on Pinterest: Clap, Heart, Lightbulb, Question, and Thumbs-down. These reactions are only available to boards shared with a group. If you were a bride getting married, you might have a board with your bridesmaids to get feedback on bridesmaids dresses, where each bridesmaid could react to pins of dresses.

Best Pinterest tips

Pinterest has a lot going on, but here are a few tips you might find really useful:

Be specific in search. The more search terms you use, the more likely you are to find what you’re looking for – and the more likely those helpful terms that appear after you search will be, well, helpful.

Boards can have sections. In a Pinterest board, click the ‘plus’ sign, and you’ll see a ‘section’ item. This adds a section to your board. You could have a ‘house’ board, then a section for each room in your home.

You can pin videos, too. If you find a YouTube video you like, the ‘share’ button has a Pinterest logo, which brings up a menu for sharing to your boards.

Pinterest has an extension. Chrome and Safari both have browser extensions for Pinterest, making it really easy to save things to your boards directly from any webpage.

Pinterest is a great way to save pics, webpages, and videos as collections. In building unique Pinterest boards, you’ll find almost endless reasons to use Pinterest. If you’ve ever thought your reading list, watch-later queue, or downloads folder were getting to messy, Pinterest is a great solution.

It’s not perfect. The user interface leaves a lot to be desired, and navigating between pins and boards is a bit clumsy. The aim of Pinterest seems to be keeping your attention on one thing at a time, which can be cumbersome.
