There used to be a time when Pages felt like a cheap rip off of Microsoft Word. Now, things have changed and Pages has become one of the best word processor apps present in the market. If all you need is an Apple word processor, Mac Pages can handle everything you will probably ever need to do. Pages is a popular word processing software created by Apple. It is available for all Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, and Mac. So, it becomes the de facto MS Word alternative for Apple users. Microsoft Word might be the default app for writing a novel, but it's not necessarily the best. If you're looking for something created with long form writing in mind, both Scrivener and Ulysses.
You may also have Microsoft Word if you loaded it onto your computer. This again will be found in the applications section if it is not on your dashboard on the bottom of your screen. It will be a blue W symbol. If you do own this; click on it and you can use this for a few extra options over the simple Text Edit program.
When writing an official letter, you need to get the layout correct. The best way is to follow the MLA guidelines. This means having the date at the very top aligned to the right. Then press the space bar twice; include the address of the person you are sending it to. Once more press the space bar twice and align back to the left
To start any formal letter you need an appropriate greeting. The best for a letter such as this is to address the person as ‘Dear’ and then put their full name. Finally, you should finish your letter with a formal sign off, such as ‘Sincerely’ and then your full name.

2. Write or Die: Great for Procrastinators
Well, the name’s a bit harsh but for those of us who need a bit of prodding, Write or Die claims to put the “prod” in productivity by using negative reinforcement.
Consequences:
- Gentle Mode: A certain amount of time after you stop writing, a box will pop up, gently reminding you to continue writing.
- Normal Mode: If you persistently avoid writing, you will be played a most unpleasant sound. The sound will stop if and only if you continue to write.
- Kamikaze Mode: Keep Writing or Your Work Will Unwrite Itself
These consequences will persist until your preset conditions have been met (that is, your time is up or you’ve written you wordcount goal or both.

7. Notes Plus: From Scribbling to Styling!
While there are plenty of fun note-taking apps (Penultimate is one) we love this particular writing app for iPad because it lets you scribble your thoughts, then circle the ones you want and covert them to text, without having to retype ’em all. There are some great demo videos on the website (though we prefer using a stylus to note-take vs. sloppy finger-scratching. The app also lets you import pdfs, web text/graphics, audio and more to really rock your research!
